The full Beaver Moon of November 2021 passed through Earth's shadow in a partial lunar eclipse overnight on Nov. 18-19 in what was the longest eclipse of its kind in 580 years.
This is the time of year when beavers begin to take shelter in their lodges, having laid up sufficient stores of food for the long winter ahead.
During the time of the fur trade in North America, it was also the season to trap beavers for their thick, winter-ready pelts.
Other nicknames for the full moon in November include the Frosty Moon and the Snow Moon, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
